Melbourne’s Peppercreek Revival has arrived with a self-titled debut album that blends blues, roots, folk, and Americana into a truly unique sound. In this exclusive Noise11 interview, Paul Cashmere sits down with Barry Hills and Kelly Auty to talk about the making of the record, the band’s origins, and the remarkable stories behind the songs.
The band may have formed only two years ago, but its members are seasoned and award-winning musicians. Barry and Kelly share how Peppercreek Revival came together, how their songwriting evolved organically, and why variety and storytelling sit at the heart of their music.
Highlights from the chat include the origins of standout tracks like Falling (a song resurrected from Kelly’s earlier catalogue), the magical studio moment that created I’m Dreaming, and the real-life Memphis snowstorm that inspired They Say It Don’t Snow Hard in Memphis. The duo also talk about recording at the legendary Sun Studio, the resilience celebrated in Through the Storm, and the importance of friendship in the closing track Thank You.
With influences ranging from folk to rock to traditional blues, Peppercreek Revival’s debut album delivers nine diverse songs that each tell their own story. Barry and Kelly explain how they want every track to sound different—creating a musical journey that surprises listeners at every turn.
Peppercreek Revival are also hitting the stage with live shows in Melbourne, including dates at Brunswick’s Union Hotel and George Lane in St Kilda.
