Multi-award-winning singer-songwriter Fanny Lumsden is already looking ahead to her fifth studio album, scheduled for 2025. Speaking with Noise11, Lumsden revealed that while writing has begun, she’s determined to give her 2023 album Hey Dawn more time to shine.
“I’m trying to put the brakes on because Hey Dawn still has life in it,” she explained. “We’re taking my Story Club shows on the road later this year, which are more intimate storytelling concerts.
But yes, I’ve been writing a lot and we’re already making plans for album number five. That’ll be 2025.”
Lumsden’s career has been marked by critical and peer recognition, with nine Golden Guitar Awards, ARIA and AIR accolades to her name. Despite the impressive collection, she insists her trophies remain part of everyday life.
“They’re all on the mantelpiece at home,” she laughed. “People joke about using them as doorstops, but I’m very proud of them. We’re self-managed and live in regional Australia, so every accolade means a lot.”
The support of her community has also been a cornerstone of her journey. She recalled the moment she returned home after winning an AIR Award: “I went to the local pub to pick up my kids from my parents and the whole pub gave me a standing ovation. That’s pretty special.”
Before settling regionally, Lumsden spent six years in Sydney’s Surry Hills, which she credits as essential to her growth as an artist.
“I didn’t even know what a DI was when I first started gigging,” she admitted. “But I wouldn’t have met my band or my husband without that time. It really shaped my career.”
With her feet firmly in the present and her sights set on the future, 2025 promises another chapter in Lumsden’s remarkable story.
