Bjork Premieres The Making Of Black Lake

A short film chronicling the making of Bjork’s “Black Lake” video, produced by Autodesk has premiering today.

The film includes interviews with Bjork, director Andrew Thomas Huang, collaborators at Autodesk, Wolf & Crow, xRez and more discussing the video.

After seeing some of the initial storyboards for Bjork’s “Black Lake” and discussing concepts for the Vulnicura album and MoMA retrospective, it was clear that Autodesk had a lot to offer with its tools and network of innovative minds to help execute Bjork’s vision. Working with an imaginative artist like Bjork and director Andrew Huang was an amazing opportunity to push Autodesk technology beyond what was previously thought possible. This video is a behind-the-scenes look at how the team worked to create various pieces for the Black Lake exhibition and cinema room at MoMA, the “moving album cover” for “Family” and artwork for Vulnicura.

“Black Lake” was originally commissioned by MoMA to debut as the centerpiece of Bjork’s 2015 museum retrospective, and is taken from Bjork’s Grammy-nominated eighth studio album Vulnicura.

Vulnicura was released to widespread critical acclaim and has been named to Best of 2015 lists by Rolling Stone, NPR Music, Spin, Stereogum, Complex, Consequence of Sound and many more.

Vulnicura was written, produced and recorded in collaboration with Venezuelan producer Arca and British musician The Haxan Cloak. Of the album’s nine tracks, six are written by Bjork with two co-written with Arca and one co-written with Spaces. Six songs are produced by Bjork and Arca, one by Bjork, Arca and The Haxan Cloak and two by Bjork. All string arrangements are by Bjork. The album was mixed by The Haxan Cloak and engineered by Chris Elms, with two songs mixed by The Haxan Cloak and Elms, and mastered by Mandy Parnell. Vulnicura is Bjork’s first release since the 2011 album and multimedia project Biophilia.
