Noise11.com has rummaged the RIAA database to check on the most popular Black Sabbath albums by award certifications.

What is interesting is that Sabbath haven’t been awarded any Gold or Platinum awards since 2002, so it seems an update may be required. Also of interest is that Ozzy Osbourne has sold more albums in the USA as a solo artist than with Black Sabbath (see below).

Black Sabbath has achieved 13 Platinum and six Gold albums in America. Ozzy Osbourne has been awarded 25 Platinum albums for his solo work. The biggest Black Sabbath seller was 1970’s ‘Paranoid’ (4 million+). Ozzy’s ‘Blizzard of Oz’ and ‘No More Tears’ also sold 4 million + (4 times Platinum).

In the USA, Platinum is awarded for 1,000,000 sales, Gold is awarded for 500,000 sales.

‘Paranoid’ is also Black Sabbath’s biggest seller in their homeland UK. It has been awarded 6 times Platinum in the UK.

‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’ is the second biggest seller with 3 million plus sales.

Non-Ozzy Osbourne Black Sabbath to receive RIAA certifications are ‘Heaven and Hell’ (1980) and ‘Mob Rules’ (1981), both with vocals by Ronnie James Dio.

Black Sabbath albums by RIAA certifications:

· Paranoid (4x Plat US, 6x Plat UK)
· Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Plat US, 3x Plat UK)
· Master of Reality (2x Plat US, 3x Plat UK)
· Vol. 4 (Plat US, 2x Plat UK)
