Dan Kelly’s Dream Band To Play Spiegel Rock

Dan Kelly’s Dream Band is one of the first of three acts named for Melba Spiegeltent 2017.

Spiegel Rock is set for Saturday 18 February and aimed at Collingwood.

DAN KELLY’s DREAM BAND
The six-piece Dan Kelly Dream Band is a widescreen psychedelic party with ultra-narrative lyrics, dancing and gravity defying hair styles and features members of Augie March, Ground Components, CW Stoneking’s band and the Magic Mountain Band.

Having toured or 15 years with Paul Kelly as his guitarist and played on four of his albums, he’s also performed and recorded with the likes of Martha Wainwright, Augie March, Courtney Barnett, Neil Finn and Kasey Chambers. Dan has released four lauded CDs and two EPs over the past ten years and received seven ARIA nominations, a J Award nominee and won The Age Award for Best Male Artist in 2010. His 2015 album, Leisure Panic! was nominated for the Australian Music Prize for Album of the year.

MY LEFT BOOT
Grafting together the sounds of 1970’s fuzz rock, 1960’s psychedelia and a healthy dose of flat-out howling vocals, My Left Boot have been blowing audiences away for 10 years at various venues and festivals such as CherryRock, Fuzzfest, Beechworth Music Fest etc. Their live show is a formidable beast of a thing. Huge blues-soaked riffs, an old-school, hideously powerful rhythm section topped with what must be one of the most jaw-dropping vocals in the land. Seriously.

Will the Melba Spiegeltent’s joints be strong enough to withstand the sonic assault of My Left Boot? Who knows! Better pack the wood glue just in case….

DANNY WALSH BANNED
Since 2011 The Danny Walsh Banned have performed unmissable shows reminiscent of Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour of the 1970s. Their latest album – The Dirt and the Sky – has the harshest of Melbourne music critics raving. From swamp blues to piano-driven rock ‘n’ roll, Aussie boogie, and southern soul, the album needs to be played loud and preferably through an old pair of speakers on the back verandah as the sun goes down. Having played at music festivals across Melbourne including the Kyneton Blues Festival, Williamstown Beer Festival, and Beechworth Music Festival, they’re also a regular fixture on the local music scene. Banned leader Danny Walsh and his wife, Emma Peel, curated the inaugural Reservoir Stomp in 2016 which saw over 500 people rock out at the Reservoir Bowls Club.
