Room 8 has added one extra ‘Let’s Get It On – The Life and Music Of Marvin Gaye’ show for this Sunday.
‘Lets Get It On – The Life and MusicOf Marvin Gaye’ stars Bert LaBonté as the Marvin Gaye storyteller with Jude Perl who balances the act with the Tammi Terril and various female duets Gaye recorded over his career backed by the Funk City Band led by John McAll.
LaBonté and newcomer Perl make the show work with their ad-lib banter at times with the audience while writer John Livings words articulate the story of a man whose life was equal parts fame and tragedy.
Marvin Gaye was a complex character who rose to the very height of fame in the USA by becoming Motown’s first superstar. When he fell, he fell from a great height and in 1984 was dead at age 44.
Room 8 productions have created unique theatre in Australia by telling the story of some of the world’s greatest artists through words and music. Johnny Cash, Bon Scott, Etta James, Eva Cassidy and John Denver are just some of the names whose stories have been told through Room 8 productions.
Last year’s production on Etta James became one of the hot ticket items around Australia with the production touring twice to sell-out performances nationally.
The Marvin Gaye story is worth seeing alone for the number of Motown classics driven by the man. ‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine’, ‘Dancing In The Streets’, ‘Got To Give It Up’, ‘It Takes Two’, ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, ‘Ain’t That Peculiar’, ‘How Sweet It Is’, ‘Whats Going On’ and ‘Lets Get It On’ are just some of the classics you know because of Marvin Gaye.
