Gregg Allman Cancels Sydney And Melbourne Shows

by Roger Wink, VVN Music on April 22, 2014

in Live,News

Gregg Allman has cancelled the two remaining dates in Sydney and Melbourne on his current and first ever Australian tour.

Gregg Allman had the misfortune of breaking his wrist just before starting his Australian tour; however, he thought he would be able to soldier through. He did perform twice at Bluesfest on the weekend with his arm in a bandage.

Unfortunately, the wrist has gotten worse and Allman was forced to pull out of his Monday night show at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney and the Wednesday night date at the Forum in Montreal. All is not lost, though, as ticket holders can still see extended sets by Govt. Mule and Devon Allman.

Bluesfest Touring issued a statement stating that people could also get their money back, if they so choose:

Bluesfest Touring regret to inform that Gregg Allman will not be able to perform his Sydney show at the Enmore Theatre on Monday 21st April or his Melbourne show at The Forum on Wednesday 23rd April due to a severe wrist injury worsening since his arrival to Australia. Gregg Allman broke his wrist not long before the tour commenced and since, his injury has unexpectedly worsened leaving him in severe pain and unable to perform. Gregg will be returning to the US immediately to seek medical treatment.

Gov’t Mule, fronted by the visionary singer-guitarist Warren Haynes who has been the six- string mainstay and a vocalist for the Allman Brothers Band and Devon Allman, Gregg Allman’s son who has appeared in his father’s band as well as the Allman Brothers Band will be performing an extended set each.

Ticket purchasers will be able to receive a full refund if they choose not to attend the show but these will only be available until midnight day of the performance. With any questions regarding ticketing please go to the original place of purchase.

We apologise to Gregg Allman fans who were looking forward to his appearance. We wish Gregg Allman a fast recovery and look forward to his return to Australia.

Allman has not had a good year, physically. A couple of nights of the Allman Brothers’ residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York were cancelled due to Gregg’s suffering from bronchitis followed by this new medical situation.

Gregg’s next scheduled date is May 3 in New Orleans. His tour extends through early-August.
