Karise Eden easily won the battle for number one this week blocking Hillsong Live from the top of the chart.

The figures weren’t even close. Karise Eden ‘My Journey’ sold around 45,000 units last week to Hillsong Live ‘Cornerstone’ with around 10,400.

There was even one wedged between them. ‘So Fresh The Hits Of Winter 2012’ sold around 11,200 units but because it is a compilation album it doesn’t count for the general chart. Instead, its published figure is in the separate compilation chart.

‘My Journey’ by Karise Eden is the fastest selling album of 2012 to date. With last week’s figure, it has sold around 80,000 units making it a genuine platinum seller.

What is interesting is the breakdown of digital Vs physical sales. Of the 45,000 Karise albums sold last week, only 7,800 were digital. That is a major win for the retail industry.

For the past two weeks, more than 500,000 albums sold across the Top 500. That is more than double the volume in previous weeks and months. Around 200,000 is the ball park figure for Top 500 album sales in an average week so if the The Voice done one thing good, then that one thing is getting people back into buying music.

On the singles chart, Reece Mastin claimed the number one spot with ‘Shout It Out’ selling 23,400 to fun’s ‘Some Nights’ at number two with 22,300 sales. Flo Rida at three was also close. ‘Whistle’ did around 22,200 sales so next week the top of the chart could be owned by anyone.
