Matthew Garwood, a contestant on the third season of The Voice who made his name as ‘The Tattooed Tenor’, will release his first album through Decca Records in Australia in November.

Garwood was signed to Robert Rigby, Executive Manager of A&R for Decca Records in Australia. Rigby was also the ears behind the success of the previous two Russell Morris album ‘Sharkmouth’ and ‘Van Deimen’s Land’.

After Garwood’s performance of ‘All I Ask Of You’ from The Phantom of the Opera on The Voice his YouTube views soared by 850,000.

Decca is one of the oldest record labels and has been the home of Engelbert Humperdinck, the Rolling Stones and Pavarotti.

“To be on the Decca label is a dream come true!” Matthew says. “To be on one of the world’s most iconic labels that has had a legion of great artists, from The Rolling Stones to Pavarotti, is a true honour.”

“The theme of the album is in some respect the theme of my own life’, says Garwood – “about not judging a book by its cover, about being accepted for who you are regardless of stereotypes. I think that comes through in the album, not only in the message some of the songs carry, but because it’s probably a little shocking for people to see a man decorated with tattoos making slow ballads and passionate love songs his own.”

Garwood had a history of theatre before joining The Voice. He was the lead performer for Melbourne cabaret venue Dracula’s and has had notable musical roles including playing Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera, Marius in Les Misérables, Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Troy Bolton in High School Musical and Warner in Legally Blonde.

He was selected for the Ricky Martin team on The Voice.

Matthew Garwood’s debut album is titled ‘The Tattooed Tenor’. It includes ‘All I Ask Of You’, his duet with New Zealand singer Toni Gibson. “All I Ask Of You is one of my favourite duets of all time. And I was fortunate enough to play the role of Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera, as well as perform the song in front of millions of people on The Voice and turn Ricky Martin’s chair and start this whole journey,” says Garwood.
