Midweek Chart: Beyoncé Holds Top Spot On Album Chart

in New Music,News,Noise Pro

Beyonce looks set to hold onto top ARIA album spot in Australia while Pharrell looks equally comfortable to maintain the top of the ARIA singles chart, reports Gavin Ryan.

My first mid-week report for 2014 sees not much movement at the top of the Australian charts for this week, but lots of new tunes are jumping up the charts.

ALBUMS

Beyonce looks set to hold onto the No.1 spot on the ARIA Albums chart this coming weekend with her self-titled fifth studio album, and first to hit No.1 here, and with London Grammar climbing the charts with the remix of “Strong” and their tour here this week, we could see their album “If You Wait” return to its original entry position of No.2 (Sept 2013).

Retaining their Top 10 status this week could be Lorde, Avicii, Imagine Dragons and Eminem, whilst Arctic Monkeys May ticket-sales could help boost their “AM” album up again (TW-12). Last weeks two new entries of the soundtracks for “Frozen” and “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” should both jump up this week, with Frozen potentially headed for the Top 10, Walter possibly within the Top 20.

The only new major album released last week is the second album for James Vincent McMorrow entitled “Post Tropical”, which could debut within the Top 10, whilst his debut album “Early in the Morning” made it to No.94 here back in April 2013. After dropping last week, Justin Bieber’s “The Journals” album could jump back up this week, whilst the recent TV screening of the biopic ‘Notorious’ could see the rapper’s “Greatest Hits” debut this week.

SINGLES

Last weeks top four songs could hold their positions this coming weekend, with Pharrell holding for a second week with “Happy”, followed by Jason DeRulo. John Legend and Magic!, whilst after a couple of weeks at the lower end of the Top 10 (#10 past two weeks), Rudimental and Emeli Sande with “Free” could be back up this week.

After initially debuting at No.10 in late November, Ed Sheeran and his theme for The Hobbit 2, “I See Fire” could be returning to said ten, whilst MKTO could also land their third consecutive Top 10 hit as “God Only Knows” looks set to jump up, whilst Pitbull & Ke$ha, Eminem & Rihanna and lastly Guy Sebastian should all still be within the Top 10 this coming weekend.

Beyonce cracked the Top 40 last week with “XO”, and this week the song could jump up into the Top 20, whilst also moving up into the twenty could be “Can We Dance” for The Vamps and tourists London Grammar with “Strong”. Tiesto with “Red Lights” jumped to No.44 this week, and this coming week he could jump up into the Top 30, as too could James Blunt with “Heart to Heart”. The only entries to last weeks Top 100 were from the ‘Frozen’ soundtrack and both versions of “Let it Go” should jump up, with Demi Lovato going Top 30 and Idina Menzel reaching the Top 50.

“Say Something” for A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera has so far peaked at No.47 and is at No.54 this week, but it could jump up into the Top 40 this week, whilst Bliss N’ Eso with “My Life” (TW-64) could give the group another Top 50 hit, while Jessica Mauboy and “Beautiful” could climb up a little higher too.

Lower 50: John Butler Trio could return to the charts with “Only One”, whilst Kid Ink and Chris Brown with “Show Me” (TW-94) along with for Will.i.am and Miley Cyrus (TW-71) could all leap up into the Top 60 this week. The first new entry could come from Swedish singer/songwriter Kim Cesarion and his debut track “Undressed” which was a Top 10 hit in Denmark and Sweden last July.

Beyonce could also enter the charts this week with her US single “Drunk in Love” (Top 80) and Miley Cyrus has a new ballad and racy video in the form of “Adore You” (Top 80), whilst there could also be entries lower down for Nicky Romero and Krewella on their track “Legacy”, and there’s potential for local singers Broods to chart with their song “Bridges”.
