Bluesfest Adds D’Angelo And Cold War Kids

Bluesfest is heading for its most soulful season ever with the announcement that D’Angelo is the latest addition to the line-up.

Bluesfest boss Peter Noble said, “When Bluesfest confirmed Kendrick Lamar we had the guy who produced the best record in Hip Hop this year, and now we have the guy who recorded the best current record in R&B: D’Angelo. We now have playing at Bluesfest, on the same stage and on the same night (Thu 24th March), the two most important innovators in Rap and R&B today. People will travel from all over Australia and the world to see these first time ever ‘back to back’ festival plays of the artists, who are showing the way forward in Hip Hop and R&B today. Think Prince then James Brown and you have D’Angelo – he is that good and an absolute don’t miss!”

Bluesfest won’t be total soul. There is a rock act announced now and then as well. “On top we have US bands Cold War Kids and Houndmouth, more great Indie Rock artists, as well as some of the absolute best emerging artists around today in Iceland’s Kaleo, coming to Australia after five Nr 1 hit singles in a row in their home country, a land that produces more hit artists per capita than any other country in the world, yet the big difference here is this band is the first ever major Roots band to emerge from Reykjavik, Iceland,” he added.

Bluesfest Melbourne Day Two was a rollercoaster ride. There was so much great music packed into one day that it was impossible to see it all. I expected and received absolute stunning performances from blues legend Buddy Guy and Americana royalty Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle but it’s the least expected that makes you walk away wanting more.
