Neil Young Debuts New Songs With The Nelson Brothers

Neil Young performed a secret show with Willie Nelson’s sons last Thursday night and performed a stack of new songs.

The show on Thursday night at the SLO Brewing Company in San Luis Obispo, California began and finished with some old songs but what was in between was unknown to the audience.

Young threw in the occasion recognisable song like ‘Down By The River’, ‘Walk In’, ‘Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere’ and ‘Love and Only Love’ and he did end with ‘Roll Another Number’ but for the most part nine of the songs were songs he had never played live before.

The show was Neil Young’s first live appearance in 2015. It is unknown at this stage if the show was to road-test songs for a new album with The Nelson Brothers.

Things became a little clearer on Monday with the announcement of a tour featuring Young along with Lukas and Micah Nelson’s band Promise of Real.

The band, which also includes Anthony Logerfo, Corey McCormick and Tato Melgar, will release their debut album, The Monsanto Years, on June 16 via Reprise Records.

Tickets for most of the dates on the tour go on sale April 24 with the Milwaukee date having a May 1 on-sale date.
