Already confirmed for the free opening night of the Adelaide Festival at Elder Park on 1st March, the duo announced at a press conference this morning that they will kick off a national tour in Melbourne with two dates at The Palais, before heading to Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney and Perth, along with two performances at ‘A Day On The Green’ in Rutherglen and then Armidale.

An integral part of the Australian music scene for over 30 years, Paul Kelly has performed solo, along with leading several groups, including the Dots, the Coloured Girls and the Messengers. He’s had eighteen studio albums as well as several film soundtracks (including Lantana and Jindabyne) and is responsible for hits such as ‘Before Too Long’, ‘Dumb Things’ and ‘To Her Door’.

His latest album, Spring and Fall, was released last month, along with the first single, ‘New Found Year’.

The NZ-born singer-songwriter that we love to claim as our own, Neil Finn has had a not dissimilar journey, with his work spread across solo projects as well as group collaborations and iconic bands such as Split Enz and Crowded House, which gave us songs like ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’, ‘Something So Strong’, ‘Better Be Home Soon’, ‘Four Seasons In One Day’ and ‘Message to My Girl’. More recently, he formed the band Pajama Club with his wife Sharon, with whom he released a self-titled debut album in September last year.

Neil is currently writing and recording a new solo album, the first in over ten years, with Dave Fridmann of Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev and MGMT, which is due for release in late 2013.

Special guest in Melbourne, Brisbane and the ‘A Day On The Green’ shows in Rutherglen and Armidale will be fellow singer songwriter Lisa Mitchell, who released her second album Bless This Mess in October following her platinum selling debut album Wonder.

Tickets for the tour go on sale at 9am Friday 16th November. There will be a pre-sale through Live Nation starting at 9am (Melb/Syd time) on Monday 12th November.

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
