The two stars performed at the 85th Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night, with Shirley taking to the stage to sing Goldfinger nearly 50 years since she first recorded the famed track for the 1964 Bond film of the same name.

Catherine also reprised her starring role in the hit musical Chicago as part of a Broadway tribute performance, and Shirley has commended the stunning actress on her performance credentials.

“Wonderful. I’m so glad she won,” she said of Adele’s performance and best original song win for Skyfall.

“I was on the stage when she got the trophy. I was thrilled,” Catherine added, before Shirley also praised Catherine’s performance. “And what a dancer – I taught her everything she knows!”

Catherine performed All That Jazz from the 2002 film adaptation of the hit musical Broadway show, which also starred Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere.

Shirley also gushed about her own performance at the coveted film awards ceremony. The 76-year-old star was taken aback by the company she was keeping at the Oscars.

“Oh my God, the greatest. After 40-odd years of singing that song, to sing it to actors and actresses was tremendous, a dream,” she gushed when asked how it was performing on the Oscars stage.

Ahead of the show, Shirley denied rumours she would be sharing the Oscar stage with Adele, confirming she would be performing “my Bond song and Adele will be singing hers”.

“I’ll be wearing my own jewels, I’m not borrowing them. I own them,” she added.
