‘White Night’, the biggest annual event Melbourne’s calendar, is expected to draw over 600,000 people into the city this Saturday night.

‘White Night’ will feature more than 80 free events by artists from Victoria and around Australia as well as France, Portugal, Greece, Canada, UK, USA and Morocco.

“The great thing about White Night is that whatever time you arrive you will have the same experience, so there’s no need to worry about missing out. Come early or come late, and most of all have a great night. Look out for one another, keep safe and enjoy Melbourne’s one night like no other,” Artistic Director Andrew Walsh said in a statement,

Here are a few pointers from White Night Melbourne to get the most out of the night.

1. White Night Melbourne is a popular event, so expect large crowds and queues to some works. The entire programme runs all night, so if a particular work is busy, come back at a later time. If you find yourself in a crowd, be patient and follow any directions from the White Night Melbourne team.

2. Attendance is expected to be lighter after midnight. Consider arriving later or booking in dinner first.

3. Summer has arrived in Melbourne and the forecast is for a warm night. Bring a drink bottle, stay hydrated and have a great night.

4. The projections will take full effect from around 9.00pm, and run all night through to 7am.

5. Public transport will run all night (trams, trains and buses) and all City loop stations (except Flagstaff) are open. Other options are bike valet parking and special deals from participating car parks.

6. This year, the White Night Melbourne precinct has expanded to give audiences a better experience. It stretches from the National Gallery of Victoria in the south, through the city to Melbourne Museum in the north – comfortable shoes are a must.

7. If you haven’t already got a copy of the Official Event Guide, download it from www.whitenightmelbourne.com.au

8. Extra road closures this year mean that while Swanston Street and Flinders Street may be particularly busy between 7pm and 11pm, Russell or Elizabeth Streets are both good options for pedestrians.

9. There is so much on offer, you may not be able to see everything. However, if you do try, take advantage of the quieter spaces to rest and recharge.

10. Join White Night Melbourne on Twitter or Facebook for regular updates on the night.
