EXCLUSIVE: Jimmy Barnes and Jimmy Webb To Debut New Jimmy Webb Song In Sydney Sunday

Jimmy Barnes recorded a brand new Jimmy Webb song in Sydney today with the legendary songwriter on keyboards. The two Jimmy’s will debut the song on Sunday night at Webb’s Sydney concert.

Jimmy Webb, the iconic songwriter with ‘Galveston’, ‘By The Time I Get To Phoenix’, ‘MacArthur Park’ and ‘Up Up and Away’ to his credits, composed ‘When The Lovin’ Was Easy’ for Australian rock icon Jimmy Barnes.

“When you get past all the formal stuff and just let go, that’s when rock and roll happens,” Jimmy Barnes said at his Facebook page. “That’s what happened in the rehearsal studio with Jimmy Webb today. This is the first ever live performance of Jimmy’s new song “When the Lovin’ Was Easy” that I’ll be singing with him at the shows at the State Theatre this Sunday night (5 August) and Hamer Hall in Melbourne next Thursday (9 August)”.

Jimmy Webb has returned to Australia after his sell-out tour in 2017. The 2018 shows are for Sydney and Melbourne only.

Joining Jimmy at the Australian shows are Australian music royalty in Jimmy Barnes, Kate Ceberano, Ian Moss, David Campbell and Ed Kuepper who will interpret Jimmy Webb classics with Jimmy on keyboards.

“From my side its going to be a love-fest … instant love,” Jimmy Webb tells Noise11.com. “I love the fact that David is going to be there. He has known my wife Laura for years. Kate Ceberano, I have heard some incredible vocalising from her and has wide musical taste. It is going to be groovy to have Ian Moss there to play his guitar. Ed Kuepper has a band called The Yard Went On Forever. It is going to be a great night. To be honored by this calibre of musicians in Australia is better than any award that I’ve got. It’s the people that matter”.

Frank Sinatra admired Webb as a songwriter but he never thought he songs would stand the test of time. “When I was a kid I remember Mr. Sinatra saying ‘you write ‘em like they used to kid”. I wanted to be contemporary. I wanted to be thought of as a peer. Paul Simon and Lennon & McCartney, I wanted to do something with them. Here we are in a new millennium and some of the music is still alive. I never expected that. Most of the writers from my time never thought of longevity. We thought it was discardable and a lot of it has been discarded.
