The I Kissed a Girl singer was having lunch in Beverly Hills, California with John Mayer when the comedian reportedly waltzed in.
Keen for her ex not to see her, Katy ducked under the table of the posh Polo Lounge, UK newspaper The Sun reports.
‘As soon as Katy saw Russell she hid under the table. When he was directed to one far away she emerged,’ a source said.
Katy and John, who began dating earlier this year, made a quick exit, the insider said.
‘John threw some money on the table and they headed to the back door and their waiting car. Russell didn’t seem to see a thing but everyone in the restaurant saw what happened,’ the source claimed.
Russel, 37, and Katy, 28, split after a 14-month marriage last year and are now divorced.
The pair had an awkward run-in late last month as they separately attended a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game.
Katy was at the event with her father, who reportedly greeted his former son-in-law.
A source recently told Heat magazine Katy isn’t ready to ‘make nice’ with her ex in public.
‘They are friends and talk on the phone now and then – but she still feels majorly let down by him,’ the insider told the publication.
