Motorhead Cancel Dates As Lemmy’s Health Worsens

Motorhead has been forced to cancel the balance of their summer tour dates, including five festivals, because of ongoing medical problems for Lemmy Kilmister.

In May, Lemmy had a cardioverter-defibrillator implanted in May and, last week, was forced to cancel two dates when he developed a hematoma (blood clot). While he had every intention on getting back to shows at the end of last week, his doctors have advised a few more weeks of bed rest.

The announcement from the Motorhead site:

Regretfully, Motörhead announces it has had to cancel its remaining six summer festival appearances. The band hate to let their fans down by missing any shows, but they expect to be back in full force this Fall.

As you may have heard, earlier this Spring Lemmy had some medical maintenance for the long-term good, He was, at that time, advised to rest, but once feeling better, he of course resumed his life as usual. He has since been advised that he should immediately take some more time to rest

Lemmy says: I’d like to thank everyone who wish me well, it was a tough decision for me as I don’t like to disappoint the fans especially in times where economy is bad and people spent their money to see us. But sometimes you can’t do anything else than following doctor’s orders, but be sure we will be back and kick everybody’s ass.

There you have it! You can now stop worrying, redirect those cards, flowers and chocolates to a loved one (who will appreciate them far more), keep calm and carry on! Lemmy and Motörhead certainly are! Thanks and see you in the Fall for their new album in the form of a massive Aftershock.

Drummer Mikkey Dee also talked to Sweden’s Nöjesbladet, saying (and this is with the help of translation software) “It all started when he received a nasty blow to the hip just over a week ago. After the accident we were at the hotel Royal Kensington in London when a fire alarm went off. He had to go down eight flights of stairs at night. Lemmy’s personal assistant said it was hopeless and he had a hip that was injured.

“He needs to drain the fluid from the body, and it cannot be done too quickly. When he is lying down and can not move, you can easily get pneumonia. I do not have all the details, but there will be a press release later.”
