Netflix removes episode of Nasan Minhaj’s Patriot Act critical of Saudi Arabia

Netflix is under fire for removing an episode of Patriot Act by comedian Nasan Minhaj because it criticizes Saudi Arabia over the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The Saudi government is reported to have complained that the episode threatens “public order, religious values, public morals and privacy”. It also threatened that Saudi Arabic could “reassess” the Netflix relationship with the country”, according to tech site Engadget.

Netflix is attempting to justify its action by telling the Financial Review that it supports “artistic freedom’ but withdrew the episode because of a “valid legal request”.

Hasan Minhaj is an Indian Muslim comedian who rose to fame via his work on The Daily Show.

Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj (minus the second episode) is streaming now on Netflix.
