The Cat Empire Perform For 5000 At London’s Royal Albert Hall

Melbourne’s The Cat Empire headlined a show for 5000 fans at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall on Sunday night.

While no strangers to London stages, The Cat Empire had never before played London’s ‘crown of venues’, the Royal Albert Hall. “We feel right at home in London venues. Shepherds Bush Empire is one of our favourite venues in the world” co-front man and trumpeter Harry James Angus told Australian Times. “Brixton Academy is also an amazing stage to play. But the move into Royal Albert Hall will be epic.”

The Royal Albert Hall performance was a benchmark in the 10+ years of The Cat Empire but it also comes just one week after the band played the last ever gig at the venue where they started, Bennett’s Lane in Melbourne.

The Cat Empire have come a long way since their first ever show on May 24, 2001 for 50 people. In 2014 they played their 1000th show.

The Cat Empire estimate that in the past decade they have hired 2500 cars, used 12000 hotel rooms, missed 12 flights, cancelled 1 show and recorded 76 songs over 6 albums.
