Skyhooks was the band that put Michael Gudinski and Mushroom Records on the map. They were one of Australia’s greatest bands of the 70s.

Shirley Strachan, Greg Macainsh, Freddie Strauks, Red Symons and Bob Starkie brought Australia into rock music with lyrics about Melbourne suburbs and teenage Aussie lifestyles.

The Skyhooks story was a short story. The band recorded five albums before breaking up in 1980. They announced the break-up by taking out an ad in a music mag declaring ‘Why Don’t You All Get Fucked’.

To mark the release of the Mushroom 40 Rock album, Bob Starkie tells the Skyhooks story to Paul Cashmere at Noise11.com.
