Lou Reed has cancelled five dates in April including both weekends at the Coachella Festival plus shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Monterrey.

The reason for the cancellations is unknown. The page at Goldenvoice.com for the L.A. Orpheum Theatre show reads “This show has been cancelled due to unavoidable complications.” The Warfield in San Francisco echos the wording, saying “Due to unavoidable complications this show has been cancelled.”

These five shows were the only ones that Reed had scheduled at this time.

While Reed’s cancellation is a blow to the older attendees at Coachella, there is still a long list of veteran artists performing including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Roses, Grinderman, Johnny Marr, Jello Biafra, Sparks, Lee Scratch Perry, the Violent Femmes, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Social Distorition, Dead Can Dance, Dinosaur, Jr., OMD and Rodriguez.
