Steve Kilbey of The Church has launched Melbourne’s newest venue, the newly renovated Greyhound in St Kilda.

Kilbey performed a somewhat humourous set including a pisstake of The Church’s ‘Under The Milky Way’ where the lyrics were changed to send up the music industry. He also chastised one heckler for interrupting his biggest hit ‘Almost With You’.

The Greyhound still has a few battles with council and residents to overcome. Despite a multi-million dollar facelift, council has only given the venue a license to hold 400 patrons. The capacity of the room is 900.

Congrats to Neil Wedd for getting the night together. Neil has worked tirelessly in the Melbourne Music Scene for decades putting venues like The Palace, Thornberry Theatre and Billboard on the map.

The next job is a big one. Local residents will need to be wooed to convince council to upscale the capacity.

The Greyhound is at 1 Brighton Rd, St Kilda.

Coming up on Sunday October 16, Bitter Sweet Kicks, The Mercy Kills and Bunny Monroe.
